Elderly medicine is no longer a strange discipline. For the past 30-40 years, elderly medicine has been steadily growing and developing with the attention of the medical community and society in advanced countries and all over the world
The elderly medical problems are mainly due to the increase of life expectancy. The aging society and the clinical research on the aging or the elderly have become a great concern all over the world. In Korea, the optimal elderly care guidelines and applications are now becoming essential to all healthcare professionals
The Korean Academy of Clinical Geriatric Medicine is a society that has developed from the Korean Geriatric Study Group, which has been in operation since 1992 for the purpose of exchanging academic interests and research among the doctors who are interested in geriatric medicine. It is young, but it is a society with a long-established history.
As elderly medicine becomes more academic and societal in this way, we need to systematize the research, the latest knowledge, and information transfer so medical professionals can use advanced medical techniques to treat the elderly. There is a need for a one stop window to meet the needs of this increasing medical role.
